In an unprecedented move, 18 physical therapists, athletic trainers, and massage therapists from renowned touring shows such as The Lion King, Wicked, and Moulin Rouge! have voted to join the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), as this marks IATSE’s first collective bargaining agreement of its kind for these healthcare professionals.
The group of therapists employed by Neuro Tour will become part of the IATSE’s Associated Crafts and Technicians Local in the United States. According to IATSE, the therapists sought representation to have a voice in their workplace regarding the value, education, and time they invest in their work. Their collective decision highlights the increasing trend of workers across the entertainment industry seeking the protections and benefits of union representation.
